The technical team of the
Decentralized Directorate of Culture in Cajamarca (DDC Cajamarca) recorded 34 archaeological sites and landscapes across various provinces and districts in the northern Andean region—20 in 2024 and 14 in 2025.
The findings followed a specialized assessment process that determined their cultural value, state of conservation, as well as the technical measures required for their proper protection and preservation.
Likewise, it was identified that some sites already have official declaration resolutions but lack a defined intangible boundary.
In these cases, technical work was carried out to establish their boundaries, in order to strengthen their protection against risks such as land invasions or other human-induced interventions.

Among the main registered sites are Wancasanga and El Pastal in Condebamba, El Castillo in Llacanora, Cerro Antivo in Los Baños del Inca, Cerro La Picota Grande in Celendin, Guzmango Viejo in Contumaza, Petroglifo La Lima in San Ignacio, and Piedra del Inca (Estela de Chontali), among others.
The information collected was incorporated, through the Directorate of Legal and Physical Regularization of the Archaeological Heritage Directorate, into the Geographic Information System for Archaeology (SIGDA) of the Ministry of Culture.
This tool makes it possible to update the National Registry of Pre-Hispanic Archaeological Monuments and to continue the technical procedures for their future designation as Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
As part of these actions, local governments were also notified to inform of the status of the identified sites and to promote coordinated management for their protection and conservation, within the framework of the Organic Law of Municipalities.
Thus, the Ministry of Culture, through the DDC Cajamarca, and in compliance with Law No. 28296, the General Law of the Cultural Heritage of the Nation, reaffirms its commitment to the protection, conservation, and enhancement of cultural heritage for the benefit of future generations.
