The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, on Friday announced that his government is evaluating insurance for drivers and fare collectors who have been victims of crime.

"I hope Congress supports us and does not oppose it. We are working with the Ministry of Economy and Finance," he said in an interview with Exitosa radio.

The Head of State explained that this initiative aims to provide financial support and protection to both vehicle owners and transport workers who are directly affected by criminal attacks.

"Support will be provided, but at the same time to those who directly bear the aggression, that is, drivers and fare collectors," he indicated.

In that regard, the top official said compensation for damages, such as destroyed vehicles, is being considered to assist those affected by these incidents.

President Balcazar said the Executive Branch is working on the proposal with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

He added that a second meeting with the sector is expected to continue evaluating the measure.

The top official underscored that support from Congress will be important for implementing the insurance.
