Peru's Alberto Borea is elected IACtHR member

Peruvian jurist Alberto Borea Odria was elected member of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR).

The election took place on Friday, within the framework of the Organization of American States (OAS) 54th General Assembly. This event was held in Asuncion, Paraguay, from June 26 to 28.

Borea —whose candidacy was presented by the Peruvian Government— was one of the two candidates who obtained the absolute majority of votes required for appointment as an IACtHR member.

Paraguayan Diego Moreno Rodriguez received 16 votes. Borea Odria came in second place, with 15 votes.

Uruguayan candidate Ricardo Perez Manrique completed the formation of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for the 2025-2030 term.

Perez Manrique was elected after a runoff with Colombian candidate Carlos Rodriguez Mejia. Each of them had received 12 votes in the initial round.

Borea Odria —a specialist in constitutional law and head of a law firm in the Peruvian capital, Lima— was also a member of Parliament until 1992.
