Fuerza Popular (Popular Force party) leader Keiko Fujimori on Monday announced that her father, ex-President Alberto Fujimori, has been admitted to a local clinic in the Peruvian capital Lima.

The former president will undergo an examination and biopsy under general anesthesia in the operating room.

According to the Fuerza Popular leader, the surgical intervention that her father will undergo is related to an injury to the tongue.

"On behalf of my family, I inform you that last night my father was admitted to Delgado Clinic to prepare him and perform a surgical intervention that is related to his tongue injury," she posted on X.

Keiko Fujimori noted that the medical report states that Alberto Fujimori has a "presumptive outpatient diagnosis of a malignant tumor at the base of the tongue and probable right cervical metastasis."

"The aim of this intervention is to perform a biopsy to confirm the exact nature of this disease. The biopsy's results will still take several days," she explained.

The Fuerza Popular leader pointed out that both her father and entire family are confident that he will be able to overcome and recover once again.

"We will wait for these results as a family," she expressed.

Alberto Fujimori's daughter thanked in advance the prayers for the former president and clarified that any information about his health will only be provided by family members.
