Peruvian startup Tumi Robotics received US$250,000 in seed capital from HAX, a seed accelerator focused on hardware startups based in Shenzhen and San Francisco.

Founded in 2016, Tumi Robotics offers solutions to the mining sector by providing services such as inspection and monitoring of high-risk activities using robots, computer vision, and artificial intelligence.

"Obtaining this recognition —right now that the situation is extremely difficult for everyone— and being part of the group of startups that HAX accelerates, is a milestone because it allows us to expand in international markets and to be valued as a company," Tumi Robotics CEO and founder Francisco Cuellar expressed.

Part of the above-mentioned amount (US$100,000) will be given in cash and the rest (US$150,000) will be used to finance professional services such as business consulting, marketing, finance, design, engineering, scales manufacturing, and what is necessary to turn the idea into a tangible final product.

Tumi Robotics will focus on improving its existing specialized system to measure underground mining topography in an automated manner and will serve as a tool for vehicles —whether they are ground- or air-based robots— to move autonomously in mining operations.

It must be noted that —due to the coronavirus pandemic— Tumi Robotics and HAX representatives are holding virtual meetings until international flights resume.
