Peru President: Phase 3 to gradually incorporate nearly 100% of economic activities

16:59 | Lima, Jun. 30.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday announced that the Economic Reactivation's Phase 3 starts on July 1, which will gradually incorporate more productive activities in order to reach a nearly 100% rate.

"In May, we started to resume activities through Phase 1 to reach 72%, we are already in Phase 2 and we are about to reach 82%, then we expanded Phase 2 to reach 91%," he expressed.

"And now, with Phase 3 —which begins gradually tomorrow on July 1— the corresponding Supreme Decree must be published to reach almost the 100% rate," he added.

According to the Head of State, there will be some activities that cannot resume yet, because they are source of contagion, "and we must be careful as we do not want to go first forward but then backwards."

"We are clear about where we are going, as well as what we did at the beginning to contain the spread of the virus and what we do now, taking the appropriate care, such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distance, and supported by hygiene (habits), we can reactivate the economy," he noted.

The statesman also indicated that —thanks to Phase 3— all stores in general will be allowed to reopen, always supported by the corresponding sanitary protocols.

"During Phase 3, we are going to not only (re)open shopping centers but stores in general. The protocol will also be clearly explained, and the details for the entire population will be released tomorrow," he concluded.

Today, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Tuesday marks the 107th day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
