Peru President: Coronavirus cases total 5,897

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday morning confirmed that COVID-19 cases total 5,897 in Peru.

It must be noted that 56,681 samples have been taken so far, including molecular and rapid tests. 

Thus, 50,784 citizens have tested negative.

Likewise, the top official informed that 687 patients are hospitalized, of whom 130 are connected to mechanical ventilation at Intensive Care Units.

Remarks were made from northern Tumbes region, in a televised press conference, within the framework of a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.


On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers and authorities of state institutions.

Friday marks the twenty-six day of mandatory social isolation.
