The world's toughest and biggest car competition will be back in Peru in 2019, the Dakar Rally announced via Twitter on Friday.

With the hashtag #Dakar2019, the Amaury Sport Organisation event made Peruvian dunes the first confirmed location for the Dakar Rally 2019 thus far.

Held in January 2018, the last Dakar Rally had its starting line in the Inca nation. The competition kicked off with a symbolic start in Lima's San Borja district.

The off-road endurance event had five stages, the toughest one, being the stretch in Peru's Ica desert.

Participants also drove across Pisco, Marcona, and Arequipa before leaving Peruvian territory and venturing into Bolivia and Argentina.
