Sales at shopping centers will expand 6% in the first half of 2018, mainly underpinned by greater dynamism of domestic consumption projected for the coming months, according to a report published in El Peruano official newspaper on Tuesday.
It must be noted Lima Chamber of Commerce's (CCL) Retail and Distribution Guild projected sales at shopping centers would have closed 2017 with a 4.4% growth.
By mid-2018, this figure may reach 6% due to domestic consumption boost.
Mega Plaza Mall Business Manager Juan Carlos Chiappe informed Christmas season sales are the most important of the year. He went on to add many companies operating at shopping centers depend on them.
Within this context, he noted around four million citizens visited Lima-based Mega Plaza Mall last December.
However, 2017 was a difficult year for shopping centers.
According to Chiappe, each sector's situation should be analyzed since —due to Coastal El Niño phenomenon
— some segments, such as footwear and clothing, were more affected than others.
Nevertheless, other sectors benefitted from the event, as was the case of food sales, particularly at markets.
For his part, Arellano Marketing Business Director Jhoan Vega is optimistic about what is coming in 2018.
