As President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's first year in office draws to an end, Andina news agency presents an overview of the most consequential events of his first 365 days ruling the Inca country.


1. July 28, 2016 – A Social Revolution
The Head of State announced his administration would pursue a social revolution all over Peru, in an attempt to have a more modern, fair, equitable and supportive nation. 




2. August 19, 2016 – PM Fernando Zavala granted Congress confidence
The Peruvian Parliament gave a confidence vote to Kuczynski administration's Ministerial Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Fernando Zavala, following several hours of debate. 




3. September 2, 2016 – Executive, Regional Governments 1st meeting
The Kuczynski-led Executive held the first Regional Governments GORE-Executive Meeting to address regional authorities' concerns and set out an action agenda towards the country's development.




4. September 15, 2016 – China, first international tour
President Kuczynski chose China for his first trip abroad, during which he sought investments and met with President Xi Jinping, thus reinforcing ties with the Asian Giant.




5. September 29, 2016 – Congress grants legislative powers
Congress agreed to grant President Kuczynski's administration legislative powers to rule by decree for 90 days on economy and formalization, public safety, fight against corruption, water and sanitation, as well as Petroperu reshuffling. As a result, the Executive was allowed to issue 112 decrees




6. November 3, 2016 – First 100 days in office
Progress made in terms of security during President Kuczynski's first 100 days in office included the detention of 704 people under the Whistleblower-Reward Program.




7. November 20, 2016 – Lima hosts APEC Forum Summit
After eight years, Peru hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum's Leaders Summit for the second time. The event gathered leaders from the world's 21 most important member economies, as well as over 1,500 investors and entrepreneurs. 




8. December 5, 2016 – First Ministerial Cabinet change
Jorge Nieto was sworn in as Defense Minister following Mariano Gonzalez's resignation. Salvador del Solar took on the Culture portfolio vacant position left by Nieto.




9.December 15, 2016 – Education Minister forced to resign
Peru's opposition-led Congress passed a censure motion against Education Minister Jaime Saavedra. The measure was grounded in alleged corruption acts in the procurement of computers and delays in the execution of infrastructure works for Lima 2019 Pan American Games.  




10. December 28, 2016 – Corrupt companies banned
The government approved measures banning corruption-tainted companies from entering into contracts with the Peruvian State. The measure was passed after Brazilian builder Odebrecht admitted to having distributed US$29 million in bribes in Peru. 




11. January 25, 2017 – Investment boost
The Government announced a major boost to investments with a S/5 billion (about US$1.54 billion) transfer to regions, as well as co-financed private initiatives and project unblocking to spur the economy.




12. February 24, 2017 – Kuczynski-Trump meeting
President Kuczynski met with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in Washington D.C. Both Heads of State underlined their countries' optimal bilateral ties.




13. March 30, 2017 – Coastal El Niño state of emergency
Northern Piura region is declared under state of emergency due to devastating floods triggered by Coastal El Niño phenomenon. Emergency-response efforts included humanitarian aid delivery, airlifts, resource transfers to local governments, a nationwide solidarity campaign and the deployment of State Ministers across worst-hit areas.




14. April 25, 2017 – Reconstruction with Changes
Congress passed the Executive's "Reconstruction with Changes" bill to rebuild disaster-stricken areas following "Coastal El Niño" disasters.
Pablo de la Flor was appointed Executive Director of Authority for Reconstruction with Changes, estimated to cost S/20 billion (about US$6.15 billion).




15. May 3, 2017 – Frost prevention
President Kuczynski launched the 2017 Frost and Friaje (cold spell) "Antes Peru" (Peru Ahead) Mitigation Plan to prevent and mitigate fatalities, as well as damage caused by frost events among highland populations.




16. May 22, 2017 – Transport Minister steps down
Peru's First-Vice President Martin Vizcarra stepped down as Transport and Communications Minister after rendering Chinchero International Airport project concession contract null and void.
Bruno Giuffra took on the Transport portfolio and legislator Pedro Olaechea was sworn in as Production head.




17. June 19, 2017 – Pope Francis' visit to Peru announced
The Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP) announced Pope Francis' visit to Peru, slated for January 18-21 2018.
The visit will include cities Lima, Puerto Maldonado and Trujillo. Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Alfonso Grados was tasked with corresponding arrangements on behalf of the Peruvian Government.




18. June 23, 2017 – PM Zavala sworn in as Finance Minister
Prime Minister Fernando Zavala was sworn in to concurrently serve as Economy and Finance Minister following Alfredo Thorne's resignation.




19. July 11, 2017 – Kuczynski-Fujimori dialogue
President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski —for the second time— held a meeting with opposition leader Keiko Fujimori. The dialogue covered security, corruption fight, employment, economic reactivation and Coastal El Niño post-disaster reconstruction. 




20. July 25, 2017 – Jorge Chavez International Airport expansion
After a 12-year wait, the Transport Ministry signed the addendum for Lima-based Jorge Chavez International Airport's US$1.5-billion expansion works.
