Peru's efforts to curb climate change include a commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emission by 30% by 2030, as well as reinforce its climate-change adaptation policies in line with the Paris Agreement.

According to Peru's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) —submitted to the United Nations in 2015— said commitment was the result of a joint initiative by the public and private sectors, engaging industry, energy, forestry, agriculture, transport and waste management areas.

In pursuing such goal, the Inca country seeks to continue to promote, prepare and implement supplementary climate-change mitigation and adaptation actions.

Similarly, Peru intends to maximize social and environmental benefits of efficient and inclusive productive sectors through the sustainable harnessing of natural resources.

Despite low greenhouse gas emissions —both per capita and total— which account for merely 0.3% of global emissions, Peru is vulnerable to climate change impacts like recent "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon disasters.

Thus, the Andean country has strived to meet its national and international environmental commitments while working on its economic and social growth.

In this sense, Peru has been executing innovative projects with the support of the international cooperation to build climate change resilience.

In parallel, Peru has promoted initiatives like the shift to natural gas, as well as the incorporation of renewable energies —wind, solar and biomass— into the National Interconnected Electric System.
