The United Kingdom has committed to providing technical assistance to Peru to deliver the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and Parapan American Games through a government-to-government agreement.
The arrangement was inked between the Government of Peru, through its "Special Project for the Planning and Development of the Lima 2019 Games," and the UK's Department for International Trade.
The agreement will be paramount to guaranteeing the success of the Games, considering the UK's proven experience in organizing and delivering successful global sport events.
Such experience includes the 2012 London Olympic Games and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, both regarded as the best of their kind in terms of organization and legacy in recent years.
It is worth noting the United Kingdom is ranked among the world's top 10 nations with least corruption, according to Transparency International.
Likewise, the UK is well-known for its high development in institutional matters and regulatory framework, as revealed by the World Bank Group's Doing Business 2017 report.
Thus, cooperation of the UK Government is sure to translate into efficient, transparent and competitive management and execution of tenders for infrastructure projects required.
In turn, this will lead to a lasting economic, social, urban, and sporting legacy for the Inca nation.
The bilateral agreement also covers knowledge-transfer, so the British team will share its sporting-event expertise with the Andean country to help it deliver the infrastructure and organization of the Games on-time and on-budget.
Benefits generated by the arrangement do not entail additional costs to the ones stipulated in the Games' Master Plan.
The arrangement will cover the entire duration of the project until the closing of the Lima 2019 Games.
