Peru will host the 10th World Potato Congress and 28th Congress of the Latin American Potato Association (ALAP), coming together in 2018, Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry informed on Friday.

According to a ministerial resolution, published in the official gazette El Peruano, a working group will be set up to provide the program of official activities for both events.

The non-profit World Potato Congress (WPC) Inc., organizer of the event, entered an agreement with the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA).

The accord grants INIA exclusive right to hold World Potato Congress in Cusco next year, under WPC's direction, and to represent it at any official World Potato Congress.

ALAP holds technical meetings and updates every two years in different countries, bringing researchers and entrepreneurs together. Other ALAP purposes include the exchange of scientific-technical personnel and other partners, as well as genetic, literature and other material.

During the latest ALAP assembly in Panama City, partners agreed, by majority, that the 28th Congress should be held in Peru under INIA's sponsorship.
