U.S. Vice President Mike Pence expressed his readiness to visit Peru as soon as his schedule allows, Peruvian Embassy in the U.S. informed on Friday.

His interest came following a meeting —in his residence— with Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Carlos Pareja.

After receiving a personal invitation from Pence and his wife, Pareja reached the vice president's house and took the opportunity to invite him to visit Peru, at a time that is mutually convenient.

During the meeting, Pence thanked him for the invitation and expressed his admiration for the Andean nation and its millennial history.

Accompanied by his wife Karen, he went on to offer kind words about President Kuczynski's administration.

"The Vice President was very aware of the national political situation and was very interested in visiting our country as soon as his busy schedule allows him to," said Ambassador Pareja.

Pence visited Colombia, Argentina, Chile and Panama in August 2017 as "a sign of the high importance [Trump] places in this region," according to a White House statement.

Should the visit occur, it would be the first time a senior Trump administration official visits Peru.
