The current visit of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson seeks stronger bilateral, trade ties with Peru, foreign affairs analyst Juan Velit affirmed.
Velit told Andina news agency that
Tillerson's trip happens at a moment in which there are some concerns about the United States' behavior on the international scene.
"This visit will strengthen the bilateral relation and —above all— boost trade mechanisms with the
United States, which is undergoing an encapsulation and isolation process," he said.
Tillerson's visit is also important because it represents an opportunity to let the U.S. Government know the
Latin American countries' concerns about its protectionist trade policy.
"It is also an opportunity to invite President Donald Trump to visit Peru so that he can get a more accurate picture of our country and region," he added.
The analyst believes Trump should keep in mind Kuczynski was the first Head of State in the region
to visit him when he took office.
It must be noted Tillerson has arrived before the
Lima Group meeting, which will address Venezuela's political situation.
