13:33 | Lima, Jun. 13.

United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Lima Mohammed Youssef Al Awadhi handed over a US$3 million check to the Peruvian government to support "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon victims.

Donation was received by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nestor Popolizio during a ceremony held at Lima's Torre Tagle Palace on Monday.

The gesture denotes the excellent level of bilateral ties, as well as the empathy existing between both peoples and governments.

As is known, Peru's northern areas were severely hit by "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon in the January-March period. The event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, as well as left many citizens homeless.

Said areas have been included in the government's Reconstruction with Changes plan.

According to the Peruvian government, the initial reconstruction budget stands at S/20 billion (about US$6.10 billion).
