Peru's Congress voted on Thursday to consider impeaching President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on the grounds of moral incapacity, following corruption allegations involving scandal-plagued Odebrecht company.
87 of the legislators present supported the proposal, 15 voted against, and 15 abstained.
The plenary session lasted only one hour.
Lawmakers in Peru are slated to hold a vote on March 22 at 10:00 AM to decide whether to impeach their leader.
Peru's top official will be given one hour to make his case and may be assisted by a lawyer.
As is known, a group of legislators from opposition parties filed a new presidential impeachment motion on the grounds of moral incapacity.
The aim is to remove Mr. Kuczynski from office for alleged links with
Odebrecht.
