Pope Francis will arrive in Peru on January 17, 2018, a day before his planned papal visit, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski announced.
"He [the Pope] will come from Chile, where he will make a stop. His stay in Peru will last until January 20. After that, he will fly back to Rome," the statesman pointed out.
Likewise, the Peruvian leader commented on his recent visit to the Vatican, where he officially extended the invitation for the Supreme Pontiff to visit the Inca nation next year.
During the meeting, Mr. Kuczynski gave him a "varayoc" —an Inca stick and symbol of power— a portrait of Lady Undoer of Knots and a
Peruvian soccer jersey with his name on the back.
Mr. Kuczynski's wife Nancy Lange, as well as Peruvian Ministers Ricardo Luna (Foreign Affairs) and Alfonso Grados (Labor and Employment Promotion) joined the President on the occasion.
