Archbishop of Lima Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani on Monday affirmed Pope Francis has expressed his wish to visit the Inca country in 2018.
"We are very glad to have heard Him [Pope Francis] confirm his wish to come to Peru in 2018," the Catholic authority told Vatican Radio station.
However, the cardinal noted an official date is yet to be set.
"But for us and for the people of Peru it is great news," he pointed out.
Remarks were made within the framework of the Ad Limina visit of Peruvian bishops taking place thru May 20.
The last of such visits took place in May 2009, with then-Pope Benedict XVI.
