Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday committed to provide equipment and logistics support to the General Body of Peruvian Volunteer Fire Department (CGBVP).

The Head of State remarked the voluntary and demanding work they do when dealing with road accidents, fires and other emergencies.

“You [The CGBVP] have my total support; we are going to see how this aid materializes in equipment, uniforms, more fire stations and logistics,” he said.

The high-ranking official affirmed Peru needs more firefighters, since its population doubles that of Chile; however, Peruvian firefighters make up half of the neighboring country’s firemen.

The economist assured he will find the way to articulate State and private sector’s efforts to provide new uniforms for firefighters, since their traditional red outfit is quite heavy.

“I will take on this; I know they need a lot and, as volunteers, they donate their time to a patriotic, brave, selfless cause; thus, I want to congratulate you,” he stated.

The 78-year-old said the cargo aircrafts acquired under the previous administration could be equipped to combat forest fires.

At the site, Mr. Kuczynski was joined by first lady Nancy Lange.

Remarks were made during the ceremony marking the General Body of Peruvian Volunteer Fire Department 156-year anniversary.
