Peruvian exports growth pace is the second most dynamic in the region, only exceeded by shipments from Brazil, Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Velarde affirmed on Wednesday.

Velarde also recalled that Peruvian exports recorded the highest annual growth rate, among its peers in the region and China back in May 2017.

Balance of trade

The favorable external environment has been reflected in Peru's trade surplus, as registered for the fourth consecutive quarter, he underscored.

The economist also explained that foreign trade dynamism favors such result. Thus, said surplus is expected to remain in place in the following years, standing at US$5.1 billion (2017) and US$6.7 billion (2018).

Finally, Velarde projected a substantial improvement in trade balance due to higher export volumes and a recovery in terms of trade, which would lead to current account deficit reduction in the 2017-2018 period.
