Peru's total bank loans amounted to S/238.612 billion (about US$ 73.622 billion) at the end of September 2017, thus registering an annual growth rate of 3.51%, Peruvian Bank Association (Asbanc) informed.

The guild highlighted that this positive rate marks the third consecutive month of growth.

"This behavior would show signs of economic improvement, especially in domestic demand and non-primary sectors," Asbanc underscored.

After segregating the loan portfolio by currency type, it follows that domestic currency-denominated loans totaled S/160.308 billion (about US$ 49.462 billion) at the end of September 2017.

This amount is S/834 million higher (+0.52%) than last August's figure and S/2.673 billion (+1.70%) greater, if compared to September 2016.

On the other hand, dollar-denominated loans reached US$23.983 billion in the analyzed month, thus posting a $262 million increase (+1.11%) from last August.

Lastly, the annual rate of loans in foreign currency registered a US$1.661 billion rise (+7.44%).
