Peru's blueberries will be exported to Chile through the Andean country's National Agricultural Sanitation Service (Senasa).

The initiative will be possible thanks to a work plan signed by both South American nations after holding technical negotiations.

Within this framework, the agreement was the result of articulated efforts undertaken by Peru's Ministries of Agriculture-Irrigation (Minagri) and Foreign Trade-Tourism (Mincetur).

Prior to the signing, Senasa Head Jorge Barrenechea and Chilean Agriculture-Livestock Service (SAG) President Angel Sartori visited Hass avocado and blueberry production areas in northern La Libertad region.

Likewise, it is worth noting Sartori's visit seemed a good opportunity to show the production-packaging system and certification, which are required to ensure phytosanitary safety.

It must be noted Peru also exports avocados to Chile from La Libertad, Ica, Arequipa and Moquegua regions.

In addition, Senasa continues boosting the entry of Peruvian avocados and blueberries into South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and India.

Peruvian blueberry exports are expected to expand at least 23% this year, thus exceeding US$300 million, according to the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex).
