13:24 | Puno (Puno region), May. 4.
Quechua coffee was awarded the Best Quality Coffee prize at the Specialty Coffee Expo 2018 held in the United States, overcoming a number of varieties presented by other countries.
This is the second consecutive year that the Peruvian brand wins such prize at tasting sessions held by Small Producers' Symbol (SPP) at this year's
Specialty Coffee Expo (SCA) in Seattle.
Vicentica Phocco —a Puno-based coffee producer— was recently awarded the Best Quality Coffee prize in the small producers category.
Phocco is part of the Sandia Valley Cooperatives Central (Cecovasa), which gathers coffee producers in this region.
Last year, the winner was
Raul Mamani, another Puno region-based coffee producer, who received a similar award for his coffee "Tunki."
A few years ago, Rainforest Alliance —an organization that groups the best coffee tasters around the world— chose Quechua coffee as "the Tastiest Coffee Bean in the World."
The Quechua brand is 100% organic and distributed under fair trade criteria.
