The New York Post has listed Peruvian film La Teta Asustada (The Milk of Sorrow) among the top ten films of the year.

Peruvian director Claudia Llosa's film was ranked tenth on the list which included movies from the entire year and not just the Oscar-bait flicks released in November and December.

French movie Lourdes by Jessica Hausner topped the list followed by The Girl (Fredrik Edfeldt, Sweden), Dogtooth (Giorgos Lanthimos, Greece), and Winter's Bone (Debra Granik, USA).

The Milk of Sorrow tells the story of a young housemaid (Magaly Solier) born as a result of her mother’s rape during the two decades of rebel violence in Peru.

The Peruvian film was nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Film Category early this year and won the coveted Golden Bear award for best picture at the Berlin film festival in 2009.
