Peru's national production expanded 2.28% in August 2017 over the same month last year, marking 97 months of continuous growth, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported.

INEI's National Production Technical Report shows Peruvian economy went up by 2.20% in Jan-Aug 2017, and 2.60% over the past 12 months (Sep 2016-Aug 2017).

August 2017 data is explained by a 13.01% increase in exports, mainly of non-traditional (34.25%) and traditional (6.46%) products.

The most exported items included fishmeal, fish oil, coffee, sugar, copper, silver, gold, as well as agricultural, textile, fishing, iron and steel, chemical and metal-mechanical products.

"The result was also boosted by a recovery in domestic demand, reflected in higher imports of non-durable consumption goods (12.52%), retail sales (0.77%), consumption credits (1.25%) and the government consumption expenditure (0.88%)," INEI head Anibal Sanchez indicated.

It must be noted 60% of the national production growth is attributable to five sectors.

August 2017 rise (2.28%) was fueled by the upturn in most productive sectors, including mining and hydrocarbons (3.60%), telecommunications (7.60%), construction (4.78%), trade (1.24%) as well as transport, storage and communications (1.65%), which contribute 60% to the overall growth in such month.
