Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer met with senior officials from the State Department, the Department of Defense, and other U.S. agencies, with an agenda aimed at strengthening the strategic alliance with United States of America.
During the meetings, priority issues for Peru were addressed, such as the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime, defense cooperation, and access to markets and investments, the Peruvian Foreign Ministry reported.
Schialer reaffirmed that Peru is a strategic partner of the United States, thanks to its predictable legal environment, open economy, and institutional stability, which favor safe private sector participation.
He also highlighted Peru's potential as a reliable supplier of strategic minerals, essential for the global energy transition.
"He expressed his confidence that this visit will contribute to further stabilizing and strengthening a bilateral relationship that is increasingly relevant to Peru's national interests," the Foreign Ministry stated.
Promoting Investment
As part of his work agenda, Schialer also presented the country's comparative advantages for investment to leading companies in the mining, energy, and strategic investment advisory sectors.
At a working breakfast organized by the Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA), he proposed organizing a trade mission to Peru, with the aim of energizing economic ties and promoting alliances in areas such as critical minerals, energy security, bilateral trade, and attracting foreign capital.
Schialer, who was accompanied by the Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Alfredo Ferrero, highlighted Peru's stability as a reliable destination for international business.
Meetings with Chile and Hungary
On another note, in Lima, Vice Foreign Minister Félix Denegri met with Chile's Secretary General for Foreign Policy, Rodrigo Olsen, to discuss priority issues such as security, border integration, and the neighboring ties between Tacna and Arica.
"Peru and Chile are strengthening bilateral dialogue," the Peruvian Foreign Ministry reported on its social media.
Shortly before, the Vice Foreign Minister also met with the Hungarian ambassador, András Beck, with whom they discussed the main issues of bilateral relations.
"Peru and Hungary are strengthening their bilateral cooperation in the cultural, educational, and economic fields," the Foreign Ministry stated.
