Peruvian families living in Southern Arequipa, Tacna and Moquegua regions will get natural gas for the first time starting August, Energy and Mines Minister Gonzalo Tamayo announced.
"Starting August 15, the gas from Pampa Melchorita LNG plant [located in Chincha in Peru's Ica department] will reach regasification plants in the South before being delivered to homes," he explained.
"The natural
gas will be commercially available by that time," the minister reiterated after inspecting the Moquegua-based regasification plant.
According to Tamayo, the objective is to cover 65,000 families for eight years, although this number might double throughout time.
The government official assured families using gas cylinders may save 15% to 20% of their gas costs by replacing it with this new service.
"Plus, the more you use it, the better, as you will save even more," he commented.
