A team of experts on Wednesday toured one of the three geo-routes of Colca Canyon and Andagua Volcanoes as part of activities to promote the tourism circuit, one of the area’s main attractions.

As is known, the area constitutes Peru's first aspiring geopark, being assessed by UNESCO at the request of Colca Autonomous Authority (Autocolca), Arequipa Regional Government, among other institutions.

The route in question covers Mismi snow peak (over 5,822 masl), where the great Amazon River has its origins.

The tour was meant not only to inspect Mismi peak, but also to promote the mountain as a destination and raise awareness about its relevance, Autocolca official Julio Cardenas explained.

The two other geo-routes will also be inspected over the next days.

In this sense, Cardenas noted the said inspections facilitate the organization of tourist routes while engaging the general population.

Lastly, Cardenas indicated Autocolca articulates efforts with local authorities to carry out improvement works at Mismi’s access route.
