Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday highlighted the need to prevent, as well as eliminate bureaucracy and corruption in order to execute the projects the country demands.

"We need to prevent and get rid of bureaucracy and bureaucratic corruption to develop the works we need for the country to move forward," he said at the launching of Trabaja Peru (Work, Peru) program.

Trabaja Peru is a social program designed to create jobs and promote the development of infrastructure projects in areas affected by heavy rains and landslides.

As is known, the Inca nation has been at the mercy of several landslides over recent weeks, as result of downpours overflowing rivers in different regions.

In this sense, the Head of State stressed the need for mayors and authorities of the said program to think ahead and make plans towards August-September season, when temperatures drop.

"We must start preventing. A major part of Trabaja Peru program revolves around prevention, we must be [ready] before things happen," he pointed out.

Initially, the program will operate in Loreto, Cajamarca, Tumbes, Lambayeque, Piura, La Libertad, Ancash, Lima, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Arequipa and Ica regions.

The ceremony took place at Lima-based Government Palace. Mr. Kuczynski was joined by Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Alfonso Grados, as well as mayors.
