Violence cannot be tolerated anymore, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said, as he praised police intelligence services that led to the capture of Shining Path leader Abimael Guzman.

In statements to El Comercio newspaper, the Peruvian leader noted the successful operation that targeted terrorist leadership at that time, when the entire country was experiencing an unprecedented wave of violence.

"I commend police officers for their painstaking job, and I believe we cannot tolerate violence in Peru anymore," he said, as he stressed the importance of Abimael Guzman's apprehension back on September 12, 1992.

Additionally, he believes Shining Path comes from a profound intellectual confusion that occurred at some universities like the one Guzman attended.

According to Mr. Kuczynski, he was working overseas, when the terrorist leader was tracked down, 25 years ago. Although he used to come regularly, which made him aware of the situation.
