Lima Metro —a railway system serving 300,000 commuters every day— will reduce waiting time from six to three minutes, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski announced Thursday.

Remarks were made as he monitored the start of operations of Train 25 at Line 1.

Joined by Transport and Communications Minister Bruno Giuffra, he said reduction will happen once all trains are rolled-out by next year.

"The waiting time between trains will be shortened from six to three minutes, meaning long lines at [Lima Metro] stations will be a thing of the past," he said.

"There will be more than a half a million [passengers]. This truly makes a difference, mainly at rush hours," the leader warned.

Mr. Kuczynski emphasized the train has been manufactured in Catalonia, Spain with state-of-the-art French technology.
