Peru President to assess minimum living wage

20:08 | Lima, Feb. 14.

Labor and Employment Promotion Ministry will convene the National Labor Council in order to review the minimum living wage of workers in the country, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski informed Wednesday.

Via Twitter, the Head of State noted he has commissioned Labor Minister to call a meeting of the National Labor Council.

"I have asked Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Javier Barreda to convene a meeting of the National Labor Council right away to assess the minimum living wage," the post reads.

It must be noted the current minimum wage in Peru is S/850 (about US$259).

The last hike occurred in May 2016, during the term of ex-President Ollanta Humala.

At that time, the minimum wage increased from S/750 (about US$229) to S/850 (about US$259).
