Peru President oversees tourism projects in Cusco

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Thursday morning traveled to South-Andean Cusco region to visit Choquequirao Archaeological Park, where a cable car link is to be built.

The Head of State overflew and checked on the conservation state of the historical site, seated on the border between Cusco and Apurimac regions.

In addition, the statesman assessed infrastructure ventures to promote tourism development at the Park

In this sense, the government plans to develop a S/200 billion (about US$61.69 billion) investment project to diversify Machu Picchu's tourism offer.

This way, the initiative will benefit more than 290,000 locals, thus boosting economic growth in Cusco and Apurimac.

Tourism infrastructure projects also include the implementation of a much-awaited cable car. As a result, the 5,500 annual domestic and international tourist inflow is expected to shoot up to 150,000 during its first year of operations.

Ministers Eduardo Ferreyros (Foreign Trade and Tourism), Salvador del Solar (Culture) and Patricia Garcia (Health) joined the President on the occasion. 

Mr. Kuczynski then headed to Apurimac region to inspect Diospi Suyana Hospital, located in Curahuasi district.
