Peru President: National soccer team taught us there is no impossible

10:50 | Lima, May. 29.

The national soccer team gave us the lesson that there is no goal we cannot achieve, President Martin Vizcarra said while highlighting Peru squad's teamwork ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at the launch of a Production Ministry campaign aimed at micro and small-sized enterprises (MSEs), the statesman noted that despite the uphill journey, the team has achieved the World Cup qualification goal that has filled an entire nation with enthusiasm.

"This squad has given us so much joy and pride, not only with its qualification after 36 years but with a great lesson: everything is possible if you work as a team (…) and when you play with that objective in mind, every target can be reached," he stated.

The Head of State affirmed Peruvian soccer players have always stood out for their quality and dexterity but did not qualified for the World Cup maybe because they played on their own or tried to be noticed individually. However —he said— the current team has found the formula for teamwork.

In his opinion, the unity and joint work reflected in soccer can also inspire other aspects of daily life, so people must take advantage of their national pride for their team to work for a better country.

"The World Cup fever will go away in two months. Do we have to wait for another qualification to get together and feel proud of our teamwork? —I don't think so. Such optimism and enthusiasm must remain in all our actions," the President told the population.

Joined by Production Minister Raul Perez Reyes, Mr. Vizcarra said the aforementioned MSEs campaign is a way to make the most of the enthusiasm generated by the team and the World Cup tournament so as to generate jobs and associativity.

This campaign seeks to support business ventures of micro and small-sized enterprises. Plus, it drives sales of national team jerseys made on the occasion of the FIFA's flagship event.
