Peru President met with U.S. parliamentarians

President Martin Vizcarra on Saturday held a meeting with a group of lawmakers from the United States, within the framework of the 8th Summit of the Americas held in Lima, Peru.


The Head of State attended the gathering joined by Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio on the occasion.

Earlier on Saturday, the Peruvian leader met with U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence to discuss bilateral and global topics.

On that occasion, they addressed cooperation to fight against drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.


On the other hand, Peru's Interior Minister Mauro Medina and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Deputy Under Secretary James W. McCament held a meeting to review progress on cooperation between both institutions.

At the gathering, the North American official highlighted DHS' support for the Interior sector to fight organized crime and terrorism in the Inca country.

The meeting also featured Peruvian National Police (PNP) authorities, as well as Interior Ministry (Mininter) officials.

As is known, President Vizcarra —on Saturday afternoon— closed the 8th Summit of the Americas, in which the Lima Commitment on Democratic Governance against Corruption was adopted.
