President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Thursday affirmed his administration works to promote equal opportunities for men and women, with the purpose of shaping a non-violent and egalitarian society.

During a ceremony held at Lima-based Government Palace to address measures aimed at stopping violence against female citizens, the Head of State pointed out efforts are underway to support vulnerable citizens nationwide.

"We have to promote equal opportunities for all, for all women, men and handicapped people," the President expressed.

"We must be an egalitarian society —not only say it but also become one— and that's what we are working on," the statesman said.

Within this framework, the Peruvian leader also highlighted the importance of strengthening institutions such as the National Police and the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru.

Likewise, the President stressed those types of State policies must go beyond any administration.

"Unfortunately, a culture of violence has expanded over recent decades, and that's something we must reverse and tackle," he said.

Lastly, Mr. Kuczynski praised Women and Vulnerable Populations Minister Ana Maria Choquehuanca for her sector's efforts to halt violence, as well as to promote Women's Emergency Centers.

It must be noted Mr. Kuczynski participated —this morning— in the opening of one of those centers in Lima's Los Olivos district.
