10:37 | Lima, Jun. 18.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra congratulated and expressed his best wishes to the newly-elected President of Colombia Ivan Duque after a presidential runoff election last Sunday.

Following the release of official results, Vizcarra expressed his willingness to work side-by-side with Duque and further strengthen the solid friendship ties between the two nations.

The 41-year-old former senator faced off against leftist Gustavo Petro, who acknowledged his loss to his rival.

With 100% of all voting stations counted, conservative Duque won 53.98% of the vote, whereas Gustavo Petro received 41.81%.

Peru maintains a close bilateral relationship with Colombia. Both countries are members of the Pacific Alliance —the most dynamic trade integration bloc in the region.
