Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Tuesday voiced hopes for consensus regarding the Venezuelan crisis so as to put an end to political imprisonment and the recently-opened Constituent Assembly.

"Venezuelan economy has basically hit rock bottom. We need understanding for the current [Nicolas Maduro's] administration to release political prisoners and close this unlawful Constituent Assembly," the Head of State pointed out.

The 78-year-old statesman thus commented on the Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting taking place in Lima to assess the situation of the Bolivarian nation, as well as U.S. sanctions against Maduro for hindering democracy.

As is known, the Trump administration recently froze Maduro's assets in the U.S. in response to Venezuela's Constituent Assembly elections.

Peru, for its part, responded by convening a meeting of Foreign Ministers from the Americas to seek a joint stance on the matter.

Remarks were made after supervising the launch of construction works for two highways in southern Moquegua region, the hometown of First Vice President Martin Vizcarra.
