Information to be shared by Brazilian judicial authorities regarding the massive Odebrecht graft case will play a key role in combating corruption, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed on Thursday.

As is known, the Brazilian construction giant admitted to having paid bribes —worth millions of dollars— to government officials in Peru in order to secure public-works contracts.

The period in question spans over three previous presidencies: Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), Alan Garcia (2006-2011) and Ollanta Humala (2011-2016).

The Head of State said that —while time-consuming— the information delivery process would be "fundamental in the fight against corruption, which is unfortunately across all Latin America."

Brazilian Prosecutor General Rodrigo Janot last March said he would reveal further information regarding the case starting June 1st.

Thus, Brazilian authorities will now share Odebrecht executives' statements with Peru and other countries involved, but these will be kept confidential for the time being.

In this sense, the statesman noted the information would eventually be revealed, and stressed the important thing was to guarantee "a proper process through the Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary."

Remarks were made after sharing a dairy-based breakfast with over 100 children from Hogar Sagrada Familia charitable organization at Lima's Government Palace.

The event took place on the occasion of World Milk Day, established by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
