Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski attended the inauguration of President-elect Sebastian Piñera this Sunday in the Chilean city of Valparaiso.

Peru's top official was joined by Foreign Affairs Minister Cayetana Aljovin and Peruvian Ambassador to Chile Jorge Valdez Carrillo.

The solemn session was held at Chilean Congress Hall of Honor in the presence of senators and parliamentary representatives.

This way, Piñera has become the seventh elected President after the return of democracy in 1990.

He won the second round of presidential election, running for center-right Chile Vamos (Let's Go Chile) coalition.

Piñera beat President Michelle Bachelet, to whom, in 2014, he handed over the presidency at the end of his first term in 2010-2014.

According to local media, 1,380 people, including heads of state, authorities, political leaders, as well as union and social leaders, were invited to the inauguration ceremony.

On Saturday, President-elect Sebastian Piñera held bilateral meetings with King Emeritus of Spain Juan Carlos de Borbon, as well as with Presidents Juan Orlando Hernandez (Honduras), Lenin Moreno (Ecuador), Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (Peru), and Mauricio Macri (Argentina).

President Kuczynski's participation in the ceremony was intended to strengthen bilateral relations with Chile and reaffirm regional integration.

It must be noted Peru and Chile, together with Mexico and Colombia, are members of the Pacific Alliance, the most dynamic trade integration initiative in the region.
