Pope Francis will meet with Puerto Maldonado's indigenous peoples as part of his visit to the city next January, Monsignor David Martinez Aguirre de Guinea affirmed.

The gathering will take place outside Puerto Maldonado Coliseum.

Puerto Maldonado y Trujillo se preparan para recibir a Francisco.

Afterwards, the Supreme Pontiff will pay a visit to vulnerable children and teenagers in local homeless shelters.

Said activities were announced in a release issued by Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP).

Martinez also stressed Puerto Maldonado's authorities are taking care of the necessary arrangements for His Holiness' arrival.

Moreover, he stated locals will fit out their houses to provide alternative accommodation for thousands of visitors expected.

Pope Francis' schedule also includes visits to Lima and Trujillo cities.
