Peru: Pope Francis arrives in Puerto Maldonado

Pope Francis, on a pastoral visit to Peru, has arrived in eastern city of Puerto Maldonado to carry out a series of activities involving native communities and other residents of the rainforest area.

The Supreme Pontiff departed the Apostolic Nunciature on Friday after 8:00 AM (local time) on route to Air Group N°8.

During his trip to the air terminal, he was greeted by thousands of people, although he did not travel via Popemobile.

Upon arrival at the Air Group, the maximum representative of the Catholic Church boarded a Latam plane, which left for its destination around 08:50 AM.

Pope Francis arrived in Madre de Dios region after 10:10 AM. He was received by Governor Luis Otsuka, Puerto Maldonado Bishop David Martinez, and other authorities.

The Holy Father will hold a meeting with the peoples of the Amazon and other areas of the country, among other activities.

According to the schedule, the Supreme Pontiff will return to Lima at 02:35 PM to meet with President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski at the Government Palace.
