Peru: Mining project portfolio amounted to US$49.472 billion as at June 2017

The value of Peru's mining project portfolio amounted to US$49.472 billion in the period comprised between January and June 2017, the Energy and Mines Ministry (MEM) informed.

It must be noted said portfolio comprises 47 main projects. 
In this context, the Ministry affirmed there are 24 projects in advanced exploration stage and five ventures related to the expansion of seven mining units, among others. 

Likewise, copper projects accounted for 64.7% of the mentioned portfolio. 

By countries

The country with the largest mining investment in Peru is China, which accounts for 22.5% (US$11.140 billion) of the total project portfolio. 

The ranking is followed by Canada (US$9.913 billion; 20%), the United States (US$5.541 billion; 11.2%), the United Kingdom (US$5.500 billion; 11.1%), Mexico (US$5.400 billion; 10.9%), Australia (US$3.485 billion; 7%), Brazil (US$1.196 billion; 4%) and Japan (US$490 million; 1%).
