The Peruvian Environment Ministry was invited to join the governing board of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Environment and Natural Resource Security initiative during the 2018 WEF Annual Meeting in Davos.

"Countries are increasingly embracing the fact that their future growth is closely linked with a sustainable management of natural resources," Peruvian Environment Minister Elsa Galarza pointed out.

Over the course of this year's WEF Annual Meeting, Minister Galarza took part in a range of sessions in which she shared Peru's progress in integrated solid waste management, climate change mitigation initiatives, as well as forest and biodiversity preservation.

Regarding rainforest conservation, the government official highlighted the strong support to generate economic instruments that safeguard these ecosystems, as well as the relevance of sustainable cacao or coffee growing.

"Today, there is an ever-growing number of consumers in international markets choosing products with a low environmental impact, particularly [products] that do not lead to deforestation," the Environment Ministry head underlined.

Lastly, Minister Galarza noted Davos 2018 allowed for networking and making major cooperation contacts in the international private and academic spheres that will contribute to Peru's environmental policy objectives.
