Lima will be the venue of the next International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session on September 13-16, placing Peru in the spotlight as it prepares to host the 2019 Pan American Games.
According to Peruvian Olympic Committee President Pedro del Rosario, this will be a key event, since over 1,500 representatives will gather in the Peruvian capital to address IOC interests and goals.
"There is no doubt Peru will be in the spotlight. The news from the
Lima session will spread all over the world," he commented.
On the other hand, the session is deemed historic by Peru's Second Vice-President Mercedes Araoz —who
presides over the IOC High-Level Commission— since the host cities for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics will be confirmed during the event.
"This is the first time two host cities will be named at once. In addition to that, the event will bring together authorities from Argentina and Japan —host countries for the 2018 Youth Olympics and the 2020 Olympics, respectively," she explained.
According to Araoz, the session will serve to
showcase Peru as it prepares to host the 2019 Pan American Games.
"Let's use the International Olympic Committee as a platform to further promote Peru in the sporting arena," she concluded.
