Peru: Interior Ministry eradicates nearly 6,000 ha of coca crops

Peruvian Interior Ministry's Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (CORAH) has eradicated nearly 5,915.44 hectares of coca crops in Ucayali, San Martin, and Pasco regions.

Anti-drug operations were conducted from February 1 to April 1 within the framework of the 2018 Annual Plan for Reduction of Illegal Coca Growing Area —under the National Strategy to Fight Drugs 2017-2021. 

CORAH agents eradicated 2,366.66 ha in Tocache, Uchiza, Pizana Pólvora, and Shunte (San Martin); 3,306.55 ha in Ciudad Constitucion (Pasco); and 242.23 ha in Padre Abad-Aguaytia (Ucayali).

Likewise, 2,695 square meters of seedlings were destroyed, thus avoiding the cultivation of illegal coca in Aguaytia (204 m2); Santa Lucia (1,209 m2); and Ciudad Constitucion (1,282 m2).


Also, 18 cocaine paste laboratories were demolished by Peruvian National Police (PNP), which supports CORAH efforts. 

It must be noted three (3) of them were located in Aguaytia and the other 15 in Ciudad de Constitucion.

The operations were supported by National Anti-Drug Agency (Dirandro) and Police Aviation Department.
