President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's administration took measures to boost fishery sector's growth, Peru's National Society of Industries (SNI) reported.

"The current administration gave signals that favored dynamism in the sector and generated positive expectations," SNI Fishing and Aquaculture Committee President Alfonso Miranda stated.

As for traditional fishing, he affirmed anchovy catch levels will not be increased in order to preserve fish sustainability.

Thus, Miranda pointed out the need to promote fishing for human consumption and aquaculture activities with the purpose of encouraging the industry's growth.

"Fishing for human consumption has experienced a serious recovery this year and may reach the value reported in 2014, when it amounted to US$1.1 billion," he said.

Likewise, the SNI officer noted the activity registered production valued at US$920 million back in 2016.

"Public policies are expected [to be implemented] during the [Kuczynski] administration's second year in office to maintain a growth that will last until the end of the five-year period," he added.
