Peru's Economy and Finance Ministry granted a supplementary credit of S/50 million (around US$15.38 million) to State-run National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida).

According to Devida head Carmen Masias, credit will serve to enforce the National Strategy to Fight Drugs 2017-2021.

In this sense, she pointed out the granted money will contribute to reaching the government's goal for 2021: reducing the country's coca-growing area by 50% (25,000).

On the other hand, Masias noted the nation's former coca-producing zones are now involved in the legal cultivation of cacao and coffee, among other products

In addition, she highlighted the reduction of coca areas by 17.5% in the period comprised between January 2012 and May 2014.

Lastly, Masias underlined the mentioned achievement was reached thanks to articulated efforts by all sectors.
