Peru's famed tenor Juan Diego Florez raised more than S/1 million (about US$308,000) at a benefit concert for victims of rains, floods and landslides that struck Peru earlier this year.
The money was disbursed to National Civil Defense Institute (INDECI) on Friday and will be then distributed to
Coastal El Niño stricken regions.
The ceremony featured Peru's Culture Minister Salvador del Solar, PromPeru Communications and Country Image Director Isabella Falco and Peruvian crooner Juan Diego Florez, who joined via Skype from Italy.
Also attending were INDECI head Luis Alonso Zuazo Mantilla, Telefonica del Peru CEO Javier Manzanares and
Symphony for Peru Director Miguel Molinari.
Held at Lima's National Stadium on July 1st, the fundraising gig included a special appearance by 400 children and youth from
Symphony for Peru's orchestra and choir.
In addition, 44-year-old
Florez took the stage along with other Peruvian musicians to perform songs and dances from all over the country.
As is known, the Inca nation was at the mercy of
Coastal El Niño phenomenon in the January-March period.
